I live in the country outside Lockett, TX which is outside Vernon, TX which is outside more country. Occasionally I manage to find my way down to DFW to visit my kids and grandkids, but mostly I hide out here in the middle of Nowhere.
Haven't had anything to do with chickens (except eating them) since I was a girl at my grandmother's farm. There I got to fight the snakes for the eggs and process the chickens destined for the freezer. Now, however, I'm ready for fresh eggs without e-coli or salmonella or whatever the big chicken factories send to the grocery store. My first batch of 10 bought last spring is now down to 6 due to a hawk and a mystery predator. I had no idea what I was getting myself, and them, into. Call me older but wiser now. Hubby built me a new coop that seems to be about predator-proof and I'm going to be adding to the flock come spring. (Please come, Spring!) I'm in love with Orpingtons, but I've got to have some Bantams like my Uncle Thurman had years ago, too. What do I want? I want it all! When do I want it? I want it now!

Thanks, Addict. I love your part of the country. Birthed my 2d child in Charlotte 30+ years ago. Been afraid to go back ever since.
