Hello from North Dakota!

Hello! I'm new to ND and even newer to BYC. I'm just looking for people around Minot or Bismarck that raise laying hens. I plan on starting my flock this spring/summer. I'm hoping for some Plymouth Rock and/or Silkies. Just have question since in brand new to this. Thanks in advance. :)

Aldk- Thank you so much for the offer. I haven't even gotten my coop yet. :(
We got 2 puppies and they seems to be taking up a lot of time. I think my husband is going to ask me to wait til next year, I can sense that conversation coming. :(
I'd love to keep you in mind for next Spring if that is alright with you.
Thanks again.

Hi, all we are having a swap in Stanley ND on April 30 at 10:00 in the Mountrail Couonty Fair Building. They are leaving it pretty open to what you can bring large animals will have to stay in the trailer though I would guess. There should be lots of chickens, rabbits, ducks, geese, pigeons. I will also be doing Testing of the 4-h birds there. Come out and join in, it should be fun

Already looking forward to Spring and I'm sure all my ND chicken friends are too!!!

Just wondering if anyone knows dates of Spring poultry swaps coming up? I have 10 hens and my husband wants to go up to 50!! Seems like quite a jump to me, but... I'm in.

! Pleased you are still in the chicken biz. As far as breeds for your state, I'd look toward the larger bodied, smaller combed breeds (to avoid frostbite). I know Chantaclers might actually be a Canadian breed that handles the cold north. Best wishes!
