Hi my name is Amanda!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I've had chickens off and on for the last 7 years.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Around 50, half are chicks that range anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months old.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Cuckoo Marans, Blue Copper Marans, Splash Marans, Black Jersey Giants, Black Sexlinks, ISA Browns, Easter Eggers, White Leghorns, California Greys, Cream Legbars and Bantam Cochins.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love the fresh eggs and knowing they come from out own chickens. I have grown pretty attached to a few of my girls and my roos. I really enjoy watching them free range, especially in the afternoons with the right lighting, it's beautiful.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I also have James Marie Jumbo Brown Pharoah quail, and my husband and I have an organic garden. I am a tomatoe enthusiast Right now, we've got about 15 different heirloom varieties we are growing.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My family and I live on 7 acres in North Central FL. We are proud Gator Fans! We have 1 dog and 4 senior cats.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I have used BYC many times for useful information.......and my husband is tired of hearing me talk about chickens lol.
