Hello everyone. My name is M.C. (Mary Caren). My hubby just made our first chicken tractor/coop/run today. We were getting our fresh eggs from friends and looked into having our own. We have been doing some research - especially on BYC! We were going to make our own tractor, but while at TSCo we purchased a kit. It's not barn red, but will fit our needs perfectly. We can't wait to get started with adults. Should we start with juvenile hens or adults? Our kids are excited too (12 & 7 years old).
Thanks for helping out the newbie everyone!

! Great to have you in our community! I've always raised my birds form chicks so I can't advice on what age you should get. Best of of luck with your birds.

I'm thinking that adults may not be too welcoming of children. If you had chicks they would grow up with kids around them, and maybe more sociable.

A big hello from Venice!!! Welcome to the community. If your on Facebook, join the Sarasota CLUCK page. Lots of local people.
Did you get adult or chicks? What kinds?

We bought 4 cochin bantams at the Arcadia small animal auction last night. Learned A LOT! 1 hen for sure & 3 pullets, I think. If not then they are 3 hens & 1 pullet. The other farmer looking the same set as me raises both Cochin and silkies. There was 1 gorgeous grey silkie, but neither of us could telk uf it was a rooster so I passed on the silkie.
