from Modesto.

You'll love BYC. I want to also invite you to join in on the California thread https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/565482/california-the-whole-state-thread/0_20 . Might as well meet some neighbors while you're at it.

Thanks for the welcome :)
I am new to raising chickens, I just started in September of last year when I bought my first chicks and they are all now laying but for some of them it's still very hit and miss and I was advised today by someone in the neighborhood who also raises chickens to give them crushed red peppers (hot) in their food to stimulate their egg production. I need to know if this is good advice or if this will over stimulate my ladies. I don't want to hurt them, I am very fond of them even though they are livestock. Have any of you ever heard of this? Should I ask this question somewhere else?

Theyll be fine. Mine even like them fresh of the plant, so I bought cheyanne plants today. A lot of people use peppers to stimulate laying and also to help keep them warm in the winter when they don't offer corn as a heater.

And don't forget to visit us in the California thread. There are people close to you that are fantastic and it's always good to have good chicken contacts. Plus we have meetups and you don't want to miss those.
