Hey all!
I am brand new to BYC, and although I am a country girl who had her own sheep herd as a kid, and showed lambs and pigs in 4-H and FFA, this is my first try at chickens!! My 3 children are almost all grown up (23,20,16), and I am a natural born nurturer. In order to keep myself from becoming a crazy cat lady at 50, I decided to try my hand at chickens instead.
I have 4 Brahma's, 4 RI Reds, and 2 Americaunus (I couldn't resist their beautiful, baby duck-like markings!). I bought them all at 1 day old and raised them in a rabbit pen in my daughter's old room, using a heat lamp, burlap sacks and a thermometer. All survived, are now 3 months old, and are in a temporary coop outside while we finish their pen.
Anyway, I'm thankful to have a place to come and obsess about "my girls"!! Nice to "meetcha".
