Hello from Northern New York

My daughter (9 years old) and I have just started with five chicks a few weeks ago. We have two bantum buff orps and 3 bantum brahmas.

We live in a small village in northern New York ("The North Country"), I can't say which village because chickens are not allowed in village limits and I don't want the village elders to get their panties in a bunch.

Our coop is hidden in the garage with a run out back behind some bushes.

Hello from Saint Johnsville! (about an hour west of Albany). Whereabouts are you? Your secret is safe with me. If you give some eggs to the neighbors maybe they won't complain. I live in the boondocks, chickens are not a problem here. Welcome and congrats on the chickens.

Hi and welcome to BYC. I love Buff Orps.....we have to standards. I wonder if the bantams are as sweet as the bigger ones? Did you get them as chicks?

In relation to Albany I am 4 hours north by north west. St. Lawrence County. It is about a 15 min drive to the St. Lawrence River and Canada from my house.

Our bantam buff orps are very friendly and seem to enjoy being picked up. My two youngest children (6 and 8) spend a fair amount of time in the coop with the birds.

We did get them as chicks. They arrived in the mail at my friend's farm the last week of July. He ordered a bunch of chicks, I took 6 home with me. My daughter and I were hoping for 6 females, but ended up with 3 males and 3 females. I traded the cockrels for two more females.
