Hello BYC members! We just got our first chicks yesterday--a rhode island red, buff orpington, ameraucana, and blue laced red wyandotte. They're hanging out in the brooder box in our garage. We have 2 cats, one who is very mischievous, so we can't keep them in the house.

We're in Northern Utah and have been having our normal spring weather of sun, rain, snow, wind, all in the same day.

My family had chickens when I was growing up, both were city coops. The first set was 3 plymouth barred hens that nested under the lilac bushes and the second set had some roosters that were mean as could be, and 2 small hens.

Been reading lots of info the past day here. Gave the chicks a small worm for a treat today and they were quite fun to watch. My kids are quite entranced.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sounds like you will have a pretty little flock with your new chicks, love the color of BLRW. Chicken Television is fun entertainment for the whole family! In case you haven't seen it, you might like to check out the Utah thread for neighbors https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/24/utah

Thanks for the welcome! I headed over to the Utah thread to introduce myself.

If the chicks are still in the brooder - they need access to grit/ small gravel to help them digest things like bugs, worms etc. If they are old enough to spend time outside they will find their own grit.
