Hi - my name is Andrew. Nickname is norwichred because I live in Norwich and go to every home match they play but am also a passionate Liverpool fan. It's a UK and soccer thing :)

Anyway I recently got chickens. I started off with buying a coop and run from a friend at work, and two hybrids which I was told are about a month from laying.

The person who sold me the coop told me chickens didn't need perches or nesting boxes. I quickly decided he was wrong, and the coop was too small so I bought a second much larger chicken coop although I kept the run he sold me.

I then decided using a cat bowl for food and water wasn't good enough so bought proper feeders. Take into account the apples I have bought (they love them), mealworms (ditto) and all other equipment I have had my girls three weeks and spend a fortune.

I wouldn't have it any other way though. They are gorgeous and I want them to be happy.

I wish they could free range more - but I only have hedges three sides and the fourth is open to another garden. They are desperate to be let out more, but I can only really let them out for an hour a day at weekends when I'm around :( They do have a run though.

Oh and today they went on to layers pellets for the first time so I am hoping in a couple of weeks I might get some eggs.

So anyway - that's my history and story. I have a question which I'll post in the proper forum so in the meantime I'll just say Hi! :)

Hello and :welcome

Sounds like your chickens have a great life!
What about putting up a small fence, would that make it okay to let them free range?

Good luck, hope you get some eggs soon. :D
