Hello from Nova Scotia

Hello fellow chicken fans! We are new chicken owners and we are here to gather knowledge to make our flock as happy/safe as we can. We kept chickens and ducks as a child, but not had them around for years. We have 3 acres well out of town.
We have:
2 x norians
2 x rhode island red
1 x Azure Blue
1 x plymouth rock rooster
They are now 8 weeks old and have moved to their new coop and run in the yard. Once they are used to "home" we will free range them around the yard.
Congratulations on having your flock in their new home. I remember how exciting that was to get them out of the kitchen...or where ever your brooder was. BEST ever tip I can share, I learned on You tube - but can't remember the channel. Put a shelf under your roosting bar. My shelf is actually the top of the nesting boxes which are under the roosting bar. Now, cut open empty feed or shavings bags and use them as sheets to cover the shelf beneath the roosting bar. 90 percent of all the poop will fall on the plastic sheets. Each morning hose them off in the compost heap. And hang on the fence to dry in the sun. My chickens free range too, so there's practically no poop in our coop! I spot clean the pine shavings each morning with a little hand rake and a dust bin - there's like two poops, that's it.

Anyway have fun! I am excited for you to get your first eggs in about 16 weeks.

We looked at a lot of videos before the build, and we did incorporate a poop shelf, we have 2 roosting bars, one higher than the other. We have (but not quite complete) 3 nesting boxes on each side. We will finish one side first, and if the flock expands and requires it, we will open up the other nesting boxes.

Here is a pic taken during the build. My husband planned and built it himself.
I love the idea of the feed bags under the bars!
