Glad I finally joined! Every time I Googled a new chick parent question this forum came up. Very helpful indeed!

We have 2 ten month old Silkies. A gift from a lovely neighbour when they were 1 day and 2 days old. They grew up to be a hen and a rooster. Nine weeks ago we incubated 8 eggs from another kind neighbour. We were lucky to have 5 chicks hatch. 4 beautiful girls and one adorable rooster. They all look different as they are a mix of Easter Egger, Orpington, and I believe Americana. We wanted to keep the new rooster so chicken math became a reality. We were told so long as we have enough hens, we could have 2 roosters. We got 3 more chicks about the same age as our hatchlings. 2 Lavender Orpingtons and another mixed beauty. Everyone gets along great. Occasionally, Buttercup, the female Silkie, gets a bit cranky, but it's normally quite peaceful. The Silkie rooster is very sweet with the young ones. Our coop is very close to being finished. Big job for my husband and I. We really thought we'd have had it all done by mid June. Crazy delays with deliveries and other unforseen blips have really stretched out the project. Luckily we have a shaded sunroom so the fluffies are happy, but mom-in-law not so much. Having a rooster cocka-doodle-do at 5am hasn't made her a fan. Lol

Anyway, thank you for reading this long ramble. Hope to be able to give back to this community someday. :
