I would like to say hello from Tiffin,Ohio. My Wife & I would like to get some chickens. My goal is to have a coop & run with chickens (4-6) by early next spring. Now I need to figure out what breeds would be good for northern Ohio & where can I find coop & Run kit or plans.
Thanks Jeff

! I am by no means a chicken expert but chickens are very adaptable and can adjust to most climates so you have many, many breed options. Give some thought to what you are looking for - meat, or eggs, or both? Also, there are lots of plans and designs for coops and runs here on BYC! Best of luck to you!

Hi and :welcome from a fellow Buckeye. So glad you to have you aboard. Check out the coop section here. You might see something that you like. You can also check out Meyer hatchery. Their breed lists if they are cold hardy or not. The chickens that are listed in my signiture have all done well in cold themp. Good luck. :thumbsup

from a fellow NW Ohio Buckeye!

We have Australorps, Brahmas, Orpingtons, Speckled Sussex, Welsummers, Jersey Giants, Silver Laced Wyandottes, Easter Eggers, and Dominiques. The heat is hard on all of them, but they have all survived. They do just fine in the winter months.

Check the Coop and Run forum under Raising Backyard Chickens. Lots of plans, pictures and ideas to get the creative juices flowing.
