Hi! Thanks for joining BYC! Looks to me like you are starting out the right way! As a fellow forest dweller, who lost 3 hens to a bald eagle a couple years ago, and now has fort knox for her chickens, I'm so happy to hear you are doing it right from the start.

Thanks! I've already seen some predators around before having chickens, so I knew I needed to make a chicken alcatraz! So far I've seen a bobcat, mountain lion, coyote, and I've heard racoons fighting. The nighttime predators here are no joke!

It is the same here. We have cougars, bobcats, coyotes, bears and every aerial predator known to the forest, plains and rivers. We always had them safe from the ground animals, and just didn't think the eagles would come after my chickens. Now I know, and it was a heartbreaking lesson. So, kudos for doing it right!!!
