Hello and welcome to BYCGlad you joined.
You may still want to consider a wide French drain to divert water around your coop and run.
If you have mountain lions and bobcats, I would run a few hot wires around your setup as well. I use electric poultry netting charged with 10,000 volts with 1.2 Joule output to keep the resident black bear away from my chickens. I've never had a problem with her. She was in my backyard again not too long ago, far away from the chicken pen.
Hello from Nova Scotia and welcome to BYC! You’ve joined a great and resourceful community! Enjoy your journey!Hey welcome to BYC!Been lurking for a bit as I will be starting on my backyard chicken journey really soon! I've always wanted chickens and I finally bought my first house this summer that has a lot of space (for a city) and I'm very excited to finally keep some chickens! I'm in the process of building a very over-engineered chicken coop (lets just say... my house is practically a tree house on a steep hill with 81 steps from the street to my front door).
I am looking forward to learning from y'all and hopefully connecting with some local breeders!
PS here's the beginning of the coop build: main structure will be 5 x 10ft with a fenced-in free ranging area thats approx. 900-1000 sqft.
