Hello from Ohio! Haven't got chickens yet, need some help!

I'm doing my research on chickens, but, I need a bit of help. I know quietness is really based on personality, but which breeds are known to be quiet? I need a large egg laying breed that's quiet, friendly, and cold hardy. And one that is widely compatible with other breeds. Can anyone help?

Glad you could join us here! For me a red sexlink or ISA brown seems to be a good option for you. They lay plenty of eggs and are relatively tame.
