Chirping
Hello from Ohio!
I'm a first-time chicken owner from rural Ohio. I live with my boyfriend and his mother--she has been raising chickens most of her life, but has only just gotten back into raising them about a month ago.
I never had much chance to interact with chickens until a vacation to West Virginia this past year, where the small house we stayed at had a neighboring flock of very friendly hens who came to visit at all hours! I have to say, those hens are part of what made the trip special to me, and not long after we came home we started work building a coop. It was a long and exciting process, and all the while, we were carefully picking out and naming the six chicks that would live in it. It might sound silly, but after getting to know and love chickens, it was like Christmas.
Five weeks ago, our six chicks arrived healthy and peeping in the mail. They unfortunately came a little late than they were supposed to, and we feared the worst, but all was well with them. Everyone survived and we got them drinking and eating. Our cast of feathery girls consists of:
Ginny (my girl), the Buff Brahma
Pippa, the Speckled Sussex
Becky, the Salmon Faverolle
Bertie, the Silver Laced Wyandotte
Irry, the Buckeye and
Ronnie the Golden Comet.
So excited to be joining a forum where I can ask questions about all things chicken. I love these girls to death and want to learn as much as I can about the proper care and keeping.
If you read all this, thanks!
