Hi! We are new to raising chickens. This was our first week with 10 sweet girls - 1 black sex-link, 1 Ameracauna, 2 Golden Comets, 2 white Leghorns, 2 brown Leghorns, and 2 white Rocks. So far, eggs have been sporadic. I'm hoping that it picks up soon! According to the guy we bought them from, they are 5-6 month pullets. Fingers crossed for more eggs soon!

! Great to have you in our community! I wouldn't count on your girls picking up the egg production any time soon. As the hours of daylight decrease, so does the laying...hens need about 14 hours of daylight for a regular laying cycle. Less than that and it will be sporadic as you mentioned. Some add artificial light to the coop to make up for the short days...others believe this is nature's way of giving the hens a break. I wish you luck with your girls!

Hi and :welcome

Sometimes hens will take a week or two to settle in to new homes before they start laying regularly. And the fact that it's winter is probably playing a part too. Good luck, I hope you start seeing more eggs soon!

Enjoy the site. :D
