Hi first year in Vermont. How do keep ventilation during the real cold when they're coop bound? We have 60 watt bulb and heat lamp if necessary. We have 10 isa browns Just started laying.Hello! We have been raising a small flock of layers for the last 4 1/2 years and love having fresh eggs every day. We also raise a few meat birds every summer for our own consumption.
We also have guinea hens, just because they are so much fun
looking forward to learning new things!
Cheers!
My question is should we cover all vents during very cold weather?Hi first year in Vermont. How do keep ventilation during the real cold when they're coop bound? We have 60 watt bulb and heat lamp if necessary. We have 10 isa browns Just started laying.
No. You want them draft free, but at least 1sq ft of ventilation per bird. They are very good at keeping warm, but moisture can bring on frost bite. Having vents up high will allow moisture to escape. My question is should we cover all vents during very cold weather?
Ok thanks, may need to add some to make 10 square feet without draft.No. You want them draft free, but at least 1sq ft of ventilation per bird. They are very good at keeping warm, but moisture can bring on frost bite. Having vents up high will allow moisture to escape.
