Hello from Ontario, Canada

Hello! We have been raising a small flock of layers for the last 4 1/2 years and love having fresh eggs every day. We also raise a few meat birds every summer for our own consumption.

We also have guinea hens, just because they are so much fun :)

looking forward to learning new things!

Cheers!
Hi first year in Vermont. How do keep ventilation during the real cold when they're coop bound? We have 60 watt bulb and heat lamp if necessary. We have 10 isa browns Just started laying.

My question is should we cover all vents during very cold weather?
No. You want them draft free, but at least 1sq ft of ventilation per bird. They are very good at keeping warm, but moisture can bring on frost bite. Having vents up high will allow moisture to escape.

Hi, sorry, I thought I did when I joined. My husband and I live in Vermont on a small lot next to the woods. We made the wood shed into a coop for 10 chickens with an attached 8x16 run. They are ISA Browns, 18 weeks old and started laying about 10 days ago.
