I thought I would go ahead and introduce myself. I live in Ontario, Canada with my wonderful husband and my truly magnificent son. We will be buying some land next spring and the first thing dear hubby said was that we need to get some chickens. I of course said well why stop there. I want chickens, geese, and turkeys lol. I have many wonderful plans for our homestead out in the country. I truly am blessed. My name is Lynn and it's great to find a wonderful place like this.

Good morning iceychicken. I know you will enjoy BYC. There are alot of wonderful people on this site. Where in Ontario are you located? If you're not to far away you should trying to come to the Michigan Chickenstock in June. You'd meet lots of nice people who are addicted to chickens.

I live in Hamilton, Ontario which is about 45 minutes give or take from Toronto. I am so new to everything that I don't even know where to begin

Do lots of reading of the site and do searches for different topics. First try to decide what your expectations for chickens are. Do you want lots of eggs, are you raising them for meat, or just to add to the rural experience. The decide what breed of chicken do you want. You may find that it will change as you become more familar with the subject. I know my aims have changed substantially since I started. Initially I only wanted a few hens of one breed. I now have close to 40 with more on the way. I wound up deciding to have a "rainbow" flock as I know have 12 different breeds and 17 different colors. My birds eggs range from white to very dark terra cotta to blue and green. One you've decided on birds the next would be housing and containment. There are many wonderful coops shown here and the search feature will help you discover them. A suggest is that you build the largest you can afford as most of us have gotten more birds than we anticipated.
Again welcome to BYC.
