Hi everyone,
I've been reading this site for ages and figured it was time to introduce myself. I live in Portland (OR) with my husband, daughter, mouse, fish, and two chickens, and I am currently on day 26 of incubating 8 Cayuga ducklings. I currently have one barred rock and one retired rescue Brahma. The barred rock keeps our little family in eggs, and we're hoping to get some eggs from the ducks too.
I've had chickens for about 11 years now, and had Indian runner ducks a few years back. They were a lot of fun, but they destroyed the yard. I have a better system this time.
I got the duck eggs from Metzer Farm and am using a Janoel incubator - so far they all seem to be doing fine, which is amazing. I was expecting to get maybe 3 ducks from the 6 I ordered, but Metzer threw in 2 extra and they are all viable. (I last candled them all on April 25, and I did the float test on one the day before yesterday). This is my first time incubating so I'm pretty amazed they are doing so well!
Look forward to being part of this amazingly helpful community.
Jennifer
