I live with my husband in Oregon on 15 acres. Both of my sons are grown, one is a truck driver and lives about 3 hours north of me with his wonderful wife and 2 kids. My "baby" is in the Marine Corps and currently stationed at Camp Pendleton. I raise very spoiled free range chickens. I have quite a few different breeds but my favorites are Speckled Sussex, Buckeyes, Marans, Wyandottes, Cochins (especially roosters), and Brahmas. It's very soothing to watch these busy birds scratch, peck and chatter with each other. And rooster antics give me a chuckle. My favorite rooster right now is a Welsummer named Spartacus. I also have geese, ducks, guineas, and (seasonally) turkeys, 6 cats, 3 dogs (an Australian Shepherd and 2 ACD's), French Lops, and Nubian and Pygmy goats. My obsession is definitely chickens, though.

I am so jealous - -- - - all those chickens!!!!!!!!
You have definitely come to the right place - - - all of us are nuts about chickens!
Spartacus is a cool name for a rooster- - - is he as viscious as he sounds??

Actually, he's a sweetheart (well for a rooster, anyway). He's actually kind of a clown but definitely the alpha rooster. Mine all seem to get along very well. Maybe because they have so much space to run around on. The each seem to have their favorite group of hens (the hens mostly try to ignore them) and stay out of each others' way.

Anyway, thanks for the welcome, everyone. I always come here and check the "help" forum when I have a sick hen and actually registered last fall but kind of forgot about it.
