Hi! We have 10 hilly acres in Oregon covered in Douglas Firs and blackberries (bet you couldn't guess that!). We are waiting on a shipment of 30 chicks from McMurray and expect them to arrive April 1st.

As for chicken experience, I had Australorp hens and an EE rooster, Armageddon aka "Army", before my husband and I married (chickens remained at my parent's house). My rooster passed away last year at the ripe old age of 11 years. My husband worked at a large egg farm when he was in high school. That farm is long gone as far as I know, but was once one of the biggest suppliers of eggs in the state. They had Barred Rocks and White Leghorns.

My hobbies include all of the fiber arts (spinning, weaving, knitting, crochet, dyeing) and we own a fiber arts supply business. I also enjoy photography, gardening, cooking, reading, hiking, fishing, and horseback riding.

Welcome to BYC!

Wow, 11 year old rooster! You must have been taking great care of your flock.

Great to have you aboard and enjoy your new chicks! I hope they all make it safely to you. :)

Ol Grey Mare- Dark Brahmas, Barred Rocks, Silver Spangled Hamburgs, Black Langshans, RC Brown Leghorns, Redcap, Speckled Sussex, Blue Andalusians, and Welsummers. The Barred Rocks and Leghorns are for my husband, the Redcap is for my daughter who wanted to name a chicken "Rudolph" as are the Brahmas, and the rest are mine.

iwiw60- We are converting a section of the old barn on our property for the coop. Here's a picture of it before we started on it (it's much cleaner now!):

We will be putting the pop door on the back where the old feed trough is (pallets and lumber are stacked next to it in this picture, but aren't there now) and the nest boxes will go in an area to the left side that isn't in the picture. We haven't decided where to stick the roosts yet. There is a large covered area outside, approximately 20' x 30', that will serve as the run. We plan on letting them free range once they're old enough.

I'm jealous of all the room you have...aaack! :) I don't have much room at all where I live, I'm getting 4 Black Australorp chicks on April 8th. My chicken coop is a little kit that I'll be making some major changes to.

I'll be raising the whole thing up about 2 feet with 4x4's and that so-called run on the right? It's history. Once I have the coop raised up I'm adding a "real" run that will be around 8' long by the original depth. This way this 'ol senior citizen can have a real door to get in and move around in!

You defiantly live in the big city ........

Ya I would have to have the grandkids going in there to collect the egg's ......

But again a very nice and cute coop .......

gander007...sorry, the pic of my coop kit is misleading...I don't live in the big city...far from it! LOL I live in rural Central Oregon, but the place I live at doesn't give me much room at all. Sorry, that pic was misleading...not a pic of my place (from the website)!
