Hello everyone. I live in North Eastern Pennsylvania. I am new to having my own chickens but have been around them most of my life. My Grandmother, my mother and father and In-laws all have had them. I brought my first chickens home in May. We live on a part of my husband’s family farm. I was sick of always finding ticks on myself after working in my flower gardens. I decided to get them to eat the ticks. I don’t find ticks anymore, but I don’t have many flowers anymore either. Even trade right. After they went through most of the first planting I was nuts enough to try it again. I went out and bought a flat of Petunias. I set them on my front door step with the intentions of going out to plant them later that day. When I went back out all that was left were a few stems. I didn’t even get to put them in the ground. Now I only plant flowers in pots on the back deck. They haven’t figured out how to get to them yet.
I have 3 Road Island Reds, 1 rooster and two not sure. 3 Sex linked, 2 pullets and 1 rooster. 4 golden sebrights, 2 roosters and 2 pullets. 2 that I think are OEG Red Pyle, 1 rooster and 1 pullet. I also have 5 Silkie that are 5 weeks old, 5 Seramas, 2 roosters, 2 hens, a 3-day-old chick, and a peacock, and a peahen. The only ones I am getting eggs from yet are the Seramas.
I have been visiting this site since May and finely decided to join. I found it when look for information about my birds. I found this site to be very helpful.
Now for what else lives with us. We have a Blue Front Amazon parrot, a Blue Head Piouns Parrot and 4 dogs a Silkie terrier, a Yorkshire terrier, a Maltese and a beagle.
Here is a link to pictures of my birds.

Hello there and welcome! You have quite the poultry family, good for you.

This is truly a wonderful site, the kind folks here are very chicken savy:D and freindly; if they don't have the answer they'll hook ya with a link that will.

...and your plants; oh well, I don't have many left either!!! We'll have to by stock in the local greenhouses. LOL Chickens rule.

Welcome from WI.

Sounds like your flock is saving you some yardwork

I only have 5 chickens, so far they have done a great job with weeds and bugs and left most other plants in the yard without too much damage. I have lost most of my mint, beans, peas and chamomille that were grown large pots on the backyard patio. Oh well, most of my small vegetable garden is in the front anyways, they can't get to it. Hmmm, maybe I'll get mintflavored eggs????
