Hi Mel, I'd love to see some photos of your place! My husband and I are in the process of redoing a house too (we're going to sell it).

Well it aint pretty but here's some old photos! These are the befores:

The coop will go underneath the honey locust tree seen above.

Lots of junk left at the house....

HUGE cotton wood that sheds like crazy, clogs our gutters, and was rotting. BYE!

We closed / moved in August 1st so keep in mind we've been here just a little over six months and still have a lot to do

Here she is now:

Below is our espalier structure that contains our pear and apple trees! We have one out back and a longgg 24 foot one out front. If you look closely you can see that it's actually made from the old dog kennel that was on the property.

After we removed the cottonwood, we took down a leaning willow:

This is the old cottonwood/willow area: in it's place will go raised garden beds!

Tearin up some lawns:

Our coop will go under this honey locust tree: (The dog kennel was right where you see that buried railroad tie. Taking it out freed up SO much space.)

Anyway,

That's our little place! It's a labor of love and 100% worth it to us. It's also a ten-minute drive to downtown Portland and in an amazing neighborhood. My SO grew up across the street and I grew up five minutes away so we were thrilled to find a home here. Especially after being outbid on some other properties. I think most people took one look and ran

Thank you! I'll have to read up more on composting with chickens. We compost our food waste already so we have some stations set up for it. I'm sure we'll be up to our ears in chicken poop soon Their names are Arlo & Ava. Arlo lovvesss his chickens. Today he spent all day near them:

Yes, you'll have plenty if chicken poop! Great for your compost bins

I have a little blue healer named Chick. She's our baby. She's also got black ears (and eyes) and a black spot on her butt instead of back. She's a hoot

I love Arlo's coloring! How great that he loves chickens. Maybe he'll herd them to the coop for you

That's so impressive! I feel like I've already fallen for the flipper lifestyle. It's just so much fun and I'm sure there's money to be made. Already our house value has increased dramatically. Our next place will definitely be a fixer upper too. You just can't beat the pricing! Plus we enjoy the work. I'm surprised that we get so much flack for just doing our thing. Many people lament how much yard work we have cut out for us, or say something along the lines of how they don't envy the house projects. We thrive on it and it's made our bond even stronger. Love that you found something outside the typical 9 to 5. That's the dream!

If my partner didn't suffer Alzheimer's, I would still be flipping.

The last one I did was a foreclosure I picked up in an online auction about 2 miles from home. I picked it up for $62,000, got it done in 6 weeks with $22,000 into it and it sold in 21 days for $138,000 net to me (it sold for more but I gave the seller concessions). Because I took a NYS Realtors course then passed the licensing exam (but never took up the profession), I listed all my flips myself and saved a ton on commissions. I absolutely loved every aspect of it.

The neighbors always loved us. We'd come in and take the worst house on the street and make it into one of the best. Now I feel like visiting the local MLS to see what little gems await!
