In the Brooder
Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We just moved from the city to 10 acres in rural Virginia. I wasn't going to get chickens but I was worried about ticks and my kids love eggs!
How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 3 Buff Orpingtons (We had a 4th but the fox got her… learned my lesson about leaving early for soccer! They now have a run and automatic coop door…)
In the spring I'd like to get some Barred Rock and Welsummer chicks.
What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Having fresh eggs, having control over what goes into our food, self sufficiency. Also they're cute and funny! And there's something lovely and idyllic and pastoral about having chickens roaming around the yard.
What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Having another pet to worry about, being clueless!
What are some of your other hobbies?
Being a mom to a 5 year old and 2 year old and working full time, not much time for anything else!
