Hello DavidC and welcome to BYC from Louisiana

Mama Austranought gave you some good advise,..
but I will tell you that I had a pullet laying 2 tiny eggs a day for a while until her system got things worked out,.. it doesn't take long,.. you do need to get some calcium in them to harden up those shells,.. clean crushed eggshells or oyster shell is good.

My hen's for whatever reason wont eat oyster shell.

But they will eat eggs shells all day long, so when I make breakfast I just pop the used shells in the microwave and then then throw them out to the girls.

My year old hen occasionally lays 2 eggs in one day. I know it is her because she was the only one old enough to lay eggs until just recently when one of our younger hens started laying. Usually when they start laying at first the eggs may be small and shaped funny or have soft shells. This does not usually last long though! I am new to the forum too and actually don't live too far from you (about an hour away from Richmond)! So Howdy Neighbor!!
