Greetings from the (currently very windy) midlands of Ireland, where the wind knocked down my poor 4-year-old apple tree two days ago.
I've been lurking on this forum for quite a while, but decided it was time to go ahead and join now that I have my own chickens and questions about them. I grew up with a mom who owned a feed store (sort of an independent tractor supply), so I've been around chicks and chickens for most of my childhood and teen years. However, I've been globetrotting since then and am only now finally back in a location where I could get chickens of my own. I currently have three definite hens (one Mille Fleur D'Uccle, one Amber Star, one Cuckoo Marans) and one chicken that is supposed to be a Blackrock hen. They're about 10 weeks old. Once we get the bigger, permanent coop set up, I'll definitely be adding a few more! My goal is just to have eggs and have fun, so I'll have a mishmash of breeds and varieties.
Other things I do are stained glass, calligraphy, and a bit of gardening. My husband and I bought a 150+ year old cottage in the middle of nowhere in the Irish midlands last year, so there's always something to be done in the gardens or in the house!.
