Hello! I've raised broad breasted turkeys in the past but this year I have heritage (for pets) poults. They are TINY and less than a week old and they are already flying out of the brooder, is this normal? I know heritage turkeys fly/roost and I was totally prepared for that...just not so soon. What do others use as a brooder? What is the height and do you have a top on it? I've never needed anything with a cover with chicks, ducklings or goslings so I'm totally out of my element. Thank you!

My poults are usually flying out of the brooder by the time they are two weeks old.

At two weeks, I move mine to the grow out pen. I do have a cover built that I use if I don't get around to moving them soon enough.

My brooder is 4' x 4' with 17 1/2" high walls. There is nothing special about the height. It is just because they were the dimensions of the materi a l I had on hand.
