Hello from S. Florida

No particular breed as of yet since I just started researching, other than a good layer, heat tolerant for Florida and friendly. I'm not sure I will have a real choice since mail order seems out of the question because I only want 3. So most likely I'll have to take whatever is available locally.

Any leghorn breed is a good layer and they're a light, skinny breed so they are more heat tolerant. They are a bit skiddish though.

Hi Ed, have fun getting into chickens! I used to live in south FL but am now in WY (a lot more snow here than down there, lol). I suggest you drop in on the Florida state thread, you'll be able to 'meet' a lot of others that keep chickens and they may have advice or even chicks for you when you're ready. Check it out:
