Hello its your neighbor from Fallbrook, Ca
I'm going on my second yr. now of raising chickens which are all pets. From my experience we just love the light Brama's, Americanas, buff Orpington. My Wyandottes are beauty's but are not social and hate to be picked up as well as the Americanas. They tend to be the more dominate of the hens. I have a mix of 12 and 2 of each, my eggs are 'Easter eggers'. Out of the 13 we did end up w/a Roo he's a white batam polish which I would live to get rid of. Hawthorne farms in Escondido has a great selection on chicks you may have to wait until March. Just some advice when you get your chicks give them as much attention as you can, holding etc. they will be so much more affectionate w/you later and imprint you as Momma as well. I bought 3 more a few months later and did not pay as much attention to them like the others and they are mean and hate to be held.
I've learned so much in the past year, you really need to learn behaviors, sickness, regular inspection, etc.
Have fun,
