Hello!

We have chicks, three days old and we're very excited! Unfortunately the mister and I have not agreed on a coop to purchase/build and we're in a countdown now before they outgrow their indoor digs.

So we would love any advice from anyone who lives in San Francisco (we're in the fog belt) and if you could share how you built/purchased your coop? We'd love to purchase something local and while making it ourselves is a lovely idead we don't know if we have the time and skills necessary.

Also any general advice about raising chicks in our climate would be great.

Thank you in advance!! - Jamie

! Pleased you entered the chicken universe! I would advise you post in the following links - maybe you can connect with someone who can help you out. You might also try Craigslit?? Best of luck to you!

Find the California thread in this link:

Or maybe you can locate one to purchase here:

And don't sell yourselves short on your construction ability. Re-purposed materials are a great idea and coops need not be elaborate - the chickens don't know the difference. Visit the Coops thread for ideas and the coops & run design and construction thread in case you have questions!!

No advice but I'm close to you and just joined today. Work in financial district and live in Petaluma. Just picked up 6 two week old French Black Copper Marans. Currently in my bathroom under a heat lamp in a 50 gal horse water trough and I purchased a large kids play house on Craigs List for $100 that I am converting into a coop. I figure I have some time before I have to move them outside, sounds like you and I did the same thing horse before the cart
