I have always wanted chickens since as early as I can remember. I grew up with my grandparents having chickens and remember how much I loved playing in their yard with chickens running around your feet. Well it took me about 25 years but I finally got my own little flock of chickens, now that Santa Rosa approved the backyard chicken law.
So about 3 weeks ago I became a proud mama of 4 little ladies. We have two Buff Orpington's named Ariel and Fryer ( you can guess which one my husband named!) one Barred Rock named Dorothy and One Silver Wyandotte named Abigail. They in their three short weeks in our home have changed our lives forever.
My 4 year old daughter is enamored by the chickens and feels that she's their mommy and needs to make sure they have food, water, heat, and a goodnight kiss everynight!. And I have learned that I will always have chickens for the rest of my life.
I am excited because the weather is getting warmer and my ladies are getting bigger, so in about 2 week we will be getting their new coop from a man who custom makes them and we will be moving them our doors to their new permanent home.
So far these ladies offer hours of free entertainment. Then Abigail took her first dust bath and buried herself into the pine shavings and threw pine all over her, we laughed because the other chicks looked at her like "what are you doing??" But the absolute funniest moment was when they go to sleep at night. They normally cuddle together but when they lay down, they down face first into the pine looking like they are drunk! Being a new chicken owner, it was a little scary seeing your two-day old chicks face down in the pine shavings!! LOL
Either way, I look forward to these ladies for years to come. and maybe later today we are going to introduce them to the backyard lawn for a few moments while the weathers nice
Until later,
