Hello folks, I don't have any chickens yet, but I'm busy with preparing to pursue my dream of sustainable farming. I live in a condo in the city just now, but I just inherited a bit of money from the sale of my deceased mother's house, and this time next year I am going to find myself some property. I worked on a public educational farm when I was young. There was all manner of animals there, and I worked as a farm hand every summer for several years caring for everything from cows and horses down to rabbits, water fowl, peafowl, and of course, chickens. I used to eat my lunch with a little red hen that would come and sit in my lap and help me eat my sandwich. She was such a sweet and loving bird. She never had a name, but I think I'll always remember her and just what a sweet friend she was. I remember one particular incident where she was sitting on my lap and I felt something hot drop into my hand. I thought she might have pooped on me, but she hopped off my lap and I realized she'd given me an egg right into my palm! I've had a love of chickens ever since. I love everything about them from their beautiful plumage to the taste of the meat. I learned a lot about farming back then. Now it's time for me to refresh my memory and spend the year researching for what I didn't learn back then so I can give my impending flock the best lives possible. This forum is quite a bit of fun to read. I'm very happy I found you all!
