    Hello folks,

I don't have any chickens yet, but I'm busy with preparing to pursue my dream of sustainable farming. I live in a condo in the city just now, but I just inherited a bit of money from the sale of my deceased mother's house, and this time next year I am going to find myself some property.

I worked on a public educational farm when I was young. There was all manner of animals there, and I worked as a farm hand every summer for several years caring for everything from cows and horses down to rabbits, water fowl, peafowl, and of course, chickens.

I used to eat my lunch with a little red hen that would come and sit in my lap and help me eat my sandwich. She was such a sweet and loving bird. She never had a name, but I think I'll always remember her and just what a sweet friend she was. I remember one particular incident where she was sitting on my lap and I felt something hot drop into my hand. I thought she might have pooped on me, but she hopped off my lap and I realized she'd given me an egg right into my palm!

I've had a love of chickens ever since. I love everything about them from their beautiful plumage to the taste of the meat. I learned a lot about farming back then. Now it's time for me to refresh my memory and spend the year researching for what I didn't learn back then so I can give my impending flock the best lives possible.

This forum is quite a bit of fun to read. I'm very happy I found you all!

    Welcome fellow Seattlite!

Chickens are awesome. Talking of condos, I'm actually hatching chicks in one now because I'm attending school out of state. LOL. My flock lives on 7 acres north of Seattle and the livestock/gardening thing is one of my passions. So much so, that my SO was afraid of being investigated for growing things. I had 100 tomato starts plus about 30 other squash type seedlings growing inside under strip lights this year that all went home to be transplanted. Then against HOA rules per se, I grew a tomato and blue lake pole bean plant shield that covered our entire balcony. LOLz

I can't wait to get out.
