Hi, I'm new to BYC, but not new to chickens entirely; nevertheless, it's been several years since I've had chickens--until 2 weeks ago. My babies were hatched on 15-June and are doing well, but I must say, I'm concerned about the heat! My flock consists of 12 black Jersey giants, 12 barred rocks, and 8 partridge Cochins. So, I look forward to visiting with and learning from y'all,

from New Mexico!

Yes, babies don't have the ability to adjust their internal body temp as well as adults. Just keep an eye on them. Mist them and their grounds, offer up cold treats, ice in the water, even a blowing fan will help. Make sure they have lots of shade.

Good luck with your new babies!

Hi and :welcome

Shade and fresh water are musts for chicks in the heat. I like the suggestion of the fan, just make sure it doesn't get too cold then.

Don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have, and enjoy the site. :D
