Hello all,

I discovered BYC back in 2007 when I was researching Cuckoo Marans. Those Marans were some awesome birds! Ever so often I would pop in to read up on recent happenings. Recently when I popped in I stumbled across a Rhode Island Red Heritage thread. The only RIR's I have ever owned were Production type. The differences in Heritage and Production seem pronounced. I am beginning to get very interested in the Heritage RIR's.

I currently live in the city again, so owning fowl would be quite difficult at this point in time. That being said, next year I may very well be able to own a few birds again!

So, I have been reading and enjoying this site quite a bit the last few days! Thank you all for such a nice site, and a place to learn!

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan

I was just reading up on local ordinance's for where I live. It would seem I can have up to 4 poultry. I think my 2 dogs might count against the number of birds I can have though. If that is the case that really puts a damper on things. I would kind of like to have 1 roo, and 2 or 3 hens. Living in the city has it's plus's but it also has a lot of demerits.

Call animal control and ask to make sure. I'm in the city of LA and can have 5 hens, no roosters. My dogs did not count against the number of hens. Every zone is a little different though.
