Hello all!
I have only had my girls for about a month, I have questions just about every day! I am a first time chook Mum, so worrying about everything!
I have five girls, all @40 weeks old. They were rescued from a free-range egg farm which was closing down, 30,000 girls were headed for the chop! A number of rescue groups went in and took as many as possible. I was lucky to be able to adopt some. They are Hylines and have been laying every day.

Hi Ann and welcome to BYC. Good job on rescuing some birds :)

There's an Aussie thread you may wish to drop by and say hello - https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/australia-six-states-and-that-funny-little-island.598568/

Here’s a link to the Articles section - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/ There you’ll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping chickens - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs.

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

Welcome Nana Ann. Ken has given you an excellent intro. There are a lot of Aussies on BYC. @Teila will be dropping in to meet you, I'm sure. Enjoy. Us folks in the Arctic snow belt especially love to see pics of Southern Hemisphere gardens and flocks this time of year. It feeds our need to see green stuff.
