Hey all from a new member. My wife Dale and I live in the small town of Elgin, SC just outside of Columbia. She used to have chickens back in Baltimore where we are originally from. We are talking about raising some now for fresh eggs and would be interested in chatting / meeting some locals if anyone is in SC, NC or Eastern Georgia.

Been looking through the site for information and it seems like you guys are a terrific group. We hope to have some chicken images to share once we get into the spring and I get a coop built.

    Thanks in advance,

    Dale & Thom

Hey DalenThom, welcome to BYC. I'm from Columbia. My BIL is from Elgin and works there. He works for a chemical company. I don't know if you know any Hudsons, his first name is John and his mother still lives there.

Thanks Countrygirl. We don't know any Hudson's but I do have a good friend who's husband is the IT guy at the plant. We have been down here for 10 years after living Baltimore all our lives. Can't imagine living any where else right now. Looking forward to learning from the group.

Thanks Rooster and that is a good question. Dale doesn't exactly remember what she had years ago up North and is not really the techie type that would be into keeping up with all the breeds. She remembers them being bantams for the most part. Our main concern is docile birds since we have a 3 yr old grandson that is just going to be fascinated with them. Beyond that, the goals are healthier eggs (although we know not necessarily cheaper) and interesting pets. Dale swears she use to sit and talk to her chickens for hours and they paid attention. Obviously she never shared any of that with me before we got married or maybe I would have thought she was crazy LOL.

    Any recommendations?
