My wife and I live in southeast Georgia. I am retired from the military but still working and she is a retired Registered Nurse. She was looking for something to do so she bought a few chicks and we started using them as they got older for eggs instead of buying them from the store.
She has 2 breeds at this time, Rhode Island Reds and Barred Rocks. She is wanting to add two other breeds. Black Australorp and Buff Orpintons. so that she can hatch out the eggs in her 4 incubators she bought and sell them along with eggs.
We are glad to have found this site because we have more questions than answers when it come to hatching, raising, and caring for the birds and their problems.
The wife reads anything and everything on taking care of them. Sometimes there is conflicting info from different places, but we will welcome any input from anyone that have more experience than we do which is not much.

If you and your wife are new to the chicken game, I'd recommend reading some of the informative articles in the Learning Center here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center
And if you'd like to chat with some local chicken folks, find the GA thread in this link:

Welcome!

As you have already received links to some great starting points, I will just wish you and your flock all the best.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out
