Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. My granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loves our chickens. Well I got lucky and my uncle has a nice coop he built and has offered to sell me for a good price. Its about 4wx10lx8h. Has three nesting boxes and perches all about. Saved me alot of money vs. building one from scratch. It's coming with a bantam rooster of some sort, and 3 hens of unknown breed. I've got to move it about 13 miles from his house to mine and that should be interesting. Once I get it home, I'm gonna look into adding onto it and probably going to replbace the current residents with some of my choosing. Probably Dominiques and Black Australorps. Just glad I got my coop so soon without having to spend a fortune to build one from scratch. I'll post pics when i get her home. Thank you all for the overwhelming kindness and warm welcome you have given me.

I have raised Black Australorps for years (along with dozens of other breeds), and they are my favorite standard breed; extremely hardy, very calm and gentle (my children, and now my granddaughter, made lap pets of ours), and the best layers of the standard, brown egg laying breeds. I'm sure you will love them.
