Nice to meet you Elise. Looks like your hen has a bare back(rooster damage ?) If you get her a hen apron, it will help protect her back from further damage. Roosters can handle 10 hens, any less and they can get physically damaged.

I'd like to get her one... I did not know about aprons. They are actually my neighbor's chickens but as the chicks hatch in my shed the chicks are mine. They are the last 2 birds he has, tge rest were got by coyotes. They flock with a couple of feral guinea fowl

Sad news this evening... As I've told, two chickens whom i had named Pop & Corn which flocked through my yard everyday for Corn to lay eggs on a big pink comforter in my shed, Pop being the rooster, & whose eggs I've managed to hatch a couple of...
Well I've just been informed that Corn was killed by a stray dog.
I still have 15 of her eggs in incubator.
I need a new hen... Now Pop it's lonesome but for one guinea fowl... While typing this i was informed that the second fowl was run over.
But all in all i have to look up, we have 2 live chicks. One male, now a couple of weeks old & 1 female, now a couple of days old.
