Hello from South Louisiana!

My name is Will and I'm going to introduce myself using the prompts provided.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
My family and I have had chickens since March 2022. We built a coop using a kit from Tractor Supply and later built a larger chicken run after the neighborhood fox came by and killed a few of our chickens.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

We have five right now. I think that we've provided them adequate space in our coop/run and with daily (supervised) yard time.

(3) What breeds do you have?

We currently have two Leghorns, one Buff Orpington, and two Barred Rocks. The Barred Rocks seem to be roosters, which is what brought me to BYC. I need some advice!

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

My kids love them. They are learning to take care of them and noticing all sorts of creatures and aspects of nature through these chickens. My son has become a very close observer of the predators.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I work and have young children. We love to travel during the summer. My wife teaches Italian and it takes us places.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I am a college instructor and and educational technologist. We live in South Louisiana. We have fun taking care of chickens.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

Google! I just started searching and found the website.

Thank you for the wonderful welcome! I'm going to include a few photos of my coop/run and my kids (who are the principal chicken "herders").

You can see the angular chicken coop kit that I started with. The larger chicken run itself may not be much to look at it, but it's sturdy and is as fox/raccoon proof as I can muster.

I can't see if there is or isn't an apron of wire to keep diggers from tunneling under?
