Hello from Southern New England

Hello!

My dream of having backyard chickens have been 2 decades in the making. I guess it took $10 eggs to convince my husband to get on board!

I’m picking up my Orpington pullets in May. So I have a few months to prepare. Excited to learn the ropes here on BYC. :frow

Welcome to BYC! Fellow New Englander here. North Central Massachusetts. You've come to the right place for information. I'm a first time chicken owner myself. And I've learned a lot since joining here.

Welcome. I moved to SC from Pepperell, MA last year. Miss New England.

I'm next town over from Pepperell. I was born and raised in Lowell. But was always in Pepperell and Townsend growing up. My grandfather would take me fishing out here all the time. I love it out here. I could never have chickens in Lowell. Or a pig (yes a farm pig!), I tried that once, animal control made me move her. LOL

@Idaho Chicken Bungalow I have been getting engrossed with chicken emergencies/medical issues stories here. There is some crazy, nasty stuff going on. And sometimes, very sad situations. Rather heartbreaking…

But I have been surprised at the whole rat issue. Does everybody have rat issues? Does it just come with the territory?
I've not had a problem.

So you are in Townsend? I love that town. The town events, eating at the Townsend House and Willard Brook State Park. My father-in-law owns the computer repair store in Townsend.
