We are a horse farm but with 4 children we are considering adding chickens to our lives. We would love the eggs but more importantly giving our children the responsibility of looking after a flock of chickens is the biggest attraction for us. We have several unused out buildings close to the house that we are thinking about converting into a coop and fencing in about a 20X20 area of grass for them. Has anyone converted a outbuilding and if so any suggestions? Thanks for any ideas.

I have not converted any buildings myself but I wish you the best of luck with that project.

You might want to do some reading in our learning center here on BYC for lots of tips and hints from building the coop, raising your new babies, feeding adult birds and keeping them healthy and safe...

Great to have you aboard and enjoy BYC!

Thanks I've been reading and checking out pics on this site for hours. Lots to learn & do before buying chicks.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Good luck with your build. You might want to post pictures in the Coop/Run design forum for ideas/suggestions on your building https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/9/coop-run-design-construction-maintenance There are also quite a few thread on converting sheds, playhouses, stalls etc to coops if you want to do a search on what type of building you are planning on converting.
