I've just started a new chicken family and am watching my new chicks grow daily. I have started: Buff Orphingtons, Barred Rock, Iowa Blue (see my avatar), Sicilian Buttercup, Porcelain d'Uccle, Cochin, & Silkies! Will have 12 in all!

I enjoy everyone's interaction very much, very helpful to have 'expert' advice on subjects! Thanks for being here!

I have a "When to let the children go outside to play and stay question":

I live in Southern Oregon 22 miles north of the California border and it's still dropping into the 30s at night, highs of 55. At what age do chicks (after they have their full feathers) cope with what range of temperatures with a chicken coop that is nicely enclosed from the weather? Thank you for your replies.

Welcome! You are going to live this site. Any question I have I immediately go here.

I have 21 chicks outside. They are about four weeks old. I live in southern Illinois. We've had weather in the 80s lately, but it's gotten as low as the 40s. They're doing great.

Wow! 80 already? quite the spread down to the 40's. I'll be anxious to see how big mine are at 4 weeks. They're about 7 days old is all now. Thank you for your reply. -Joni
