(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
My wife and I have had chickens for 4 years now. We started with 3 and added 1 a few months later.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Only one
, and I am hoping to rehome her. Her companions all died over the past 12 months and she is very lonely.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Red Cross. I couldn't figure out where to get chickens so I started from a farm supply store nearby!
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Definitely their personalities. It was hard to tell the chickens apart visually, but easy to tell based on their reaction when I got close!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening, kayaking, hiking. Anything that gets us outdoors!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We have 3 dogs as well, on a lovely 2.5 acre lot with lots of trees and rocks. Very isolated.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I've been reading threads to learn about chickens, but without ever creating an account. I need to rehome Rhaega as I am very worried about her being a singleton chicken through the winter. She needs friends, and it's too late in the year for me to bring in new chickens.
