    Hi all.
Our world to chickens started at the beginning of 2014. We have 2 black australorpes, one splash australorp, Rhode Island Red and a Japanese bantam.

I made a coop for them under the kids cubby house. I have sectioned off our vegetable patch for their run. I section parts off so they can forage between growings - they have been great weeders and tillers. I also put down some lawn, fruit trees and a pond in a section for them to roam in.
I managed to build a auto chook door which is powered by 12v battery hooked up to a solar panel on top of the shed.
The kids love the chooks and they have been a great project.
They even assisted with my fitness and weight loss. I do not have to feel guilty about throwing out leftovers from the kids as it goes to the chooks.
I have included some pictures below. Not sure how to upload video of the auto chook door.
This forum has been a great resource for us. Sorry for the long post.
One BA has gone broody so we put some fertilised eggs for her. I have some questions which I will post in another forum.

Welcome and hello. I got my chicks in the mail in July and just put them in their coop/run last week. Love watching them scratching and digging for worms. If one finds a worm, the chase is on. The all run over to it and try and take it away. Me and the wife are having a ball. I have 2 Black Australorps, 2 Rhode Island Reds , 3 Barred Rock, and 2 Light Brown Leghorns. Ordered white Leghorns but didnt hatch so they called me and offered other choices. Went with the Light Brown Leghorn for no particular reason. We are happy with what we have

G'day, and welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Great pictures. Thanks for posting. You have a beautiful flock. Australorps are my favorite standard breed; extremely hardy, calm and gentle, and excellent layers of large, brown eggs. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your chooks.

G'day mate you have a nice group of breeds. We have a large Australian community on BYC. If you ever wonder what they are up to you can drop in at "Australia, six states and one funny little island."
