We've had "backyard chickens" for nearly 2 years, and we absolutely love it. This Spring we had our first experience of Broody Brahmas and raising their own chicks. We now have the problem of the chicks being 8 weeks old and 3 out of the 6 are boys!

That is one of the risks of hatching your own. (such a bummer) I usually figure we'll end up with 50/50. Of course it varies, but as a general rule of thumb.

You have a few options. Cull them, re-home them, or make a bachelor pad.

Welcome to Backyard chickens, we have many members from UK, I'm sure some will be around to greet you also. Sorry about all the males even if you don't hatch you own, the "Guaranteed pullets " that are available in feed stores etc, have a sneaky way of morphing into cockerels after you get them home.

Hi :welcome from Yorkshire UK

Glad you could join the flock! I'm afraid boys are the risk with hatching eggs. As Bay Bay Peepers said you have options for them. For me, once I know for sure they are boys they get 2 weeks of being advertised free to good home and if they don't find new homes they are culled.

Wishing you the very best of luck with your flock in the future.

Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow
