Hello from Tampa Florida

Hey all, I need some knowledge. I have my 11 Rhode Island reds and after 6 months old 1 has been laying for a week, another on has been laying for a couple of days. Yesterday we had a third one lay but she skipped today. My question is, do the eggs get bigger as time goes by or are they the size they are going to be? They are pretty small. Any help would be appreciated.

New layers lay small eggs. They call them pullet eggs. But as time goes on, these eggs will get bigger. I assure you.

It takes a while for the pullets to mature and grow and as they do, so will the eggs. :)

Greetings from Zephyrhills, Neighbor!

Two of my first four girls were RIR’s, Ginger and Scratch (my nephew named her). They are incredibly brave, you could set a bomb off next to them and it wouldn’t faze them. Ginger passed, we think she got hit by a falling branch. But Scratch is still scratching around and still has the best eyesight and smarts of all our chicks.

Don’t worry, the eggs will get bigger. And they don’t always lay daily. Upset them or change something and they hold back. We just moved coops from the front of the house to the back yesterday. And the eggs went from ten yesterday to three today. LOL!

Right now, your girls are just starting out. Egg laying will be uneven and you might even get some double-yolkers. But they will get down to business and the eggs will get regular and big.

Enjoy your chicks!!!

Good Morning All, I would like to inquire about refrigeration. We don't refrigerate our eggs however; with the weather getting colder how does that work? My girls lay the eggs in the cold, then we bring in the eggs to the warm house. Should they be refrigerated? Or can I keep them outside of the fridge? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
