Greetings!
I have fallen in love. I've wanted chickens since I was a little girl playing at my Papa's house. We moved to TN 10 years ago and bought 5 acres with the thought of getting horses one day. Well as most of you know work and life gets in the way and fast forward to today I am now the very proud owner of 4 beautiful girls now in my homemade brooder basking under the heat lamp. I've been following this site for weeks researching what breeds would be best for us so a big shout out to all who have contributed to our descision. I look forward to learning as much as I can from your experience.

What breeds did you decide on?
Make sure you check your brooder's exact temperature...over heating chicks can cause a lot of problems.

Hey!
I set up the brooder last night when the girls came home....hovered over them like a new mother checking the temp and had to make a few adjustment but we are now hovering around 95 degrees.
We have settled with the following breeds, 1 black australorp, 1 RIR, 1 golden comet & 1 barred rock. It's funny to watch them and already they have developed personalities. Thank you for the welcome!
